About ERSTOALGAE

Long-lasting facade plaster against algae & moss

ERSTOALGAE is a solvent-free, styrene acrylate-based facade coating for the long-term reduction of algae and fungal growth on exterior walls.

It combines high UV and weather resistance with good water vapour diffusion capacity and reliably protects plaster, concrete and masonry facades from microbial discoloration and moisture damage.

The coating is suitable for new buildings, existing buildings and renovation projects, especially in damp or shaded areas.

How does ERSTOALGAE work?

  1. 1. Microorganism prevention:

A special formulation inhibits the colonization of algae, moss, and fungi on the surface and reduces regrowth in the long term.

  2. 2. Moisture Management

    The coating:

    • Is permeable to water vapour
    • Reduces moisture accumulation on the surface
    • Prevents water film formation, which could promote microbial growth
  3. 3. Weather & UV protection

    The polymer matrix protects against:

    • Driving rain
    • UV radiation
    • Weathering
    • Carbonation (especially in concrete)

Features and Benefits

  • Long-term protection against algae and fungal growth
  • High water vapour diffusion capacity (“breathability”)
  • UV and weather resistant
  • Carbonation-inhibiting – ideal for concrete facades
  • High coverage, robust surface (wet abrasion class depending on construction)
  • Solvent-free, silver ion-free, nanoparticle-free
  • Suitable for new and existing facades
  • White; defined system tones possible
  • Ideal as a surface finish after moisture or plaster renovation

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about ERSTOALGAE

Can ERSTOALGAE remove existing algae growth?

No, heavy growth must be professionally removed before coating. erstoalgae then supports the long-term stabilization of the facade surface and reduces the risk of renewed growth.

Is the coating vapour-permeable?

Yes, moisture can escape from the subsoil.

For which facade types is ERSTOALGAE suitable?

For mineral substrates (plaster, concrete, masonry). For ETICS (External Thermal Insulation Composite Systems): preliminary tests/approval required.

Can erosion control be tinted?

Yes, within a defined, system-compatible color spectrum.

How long does the algae protection last?

The protective effect depends on the location and the level of stress, and is designed for a long-term reduction of microbial growth.
